N.J. man tried to lure 2 girls after Wawa encounter, police say

Police said the suspect made the girls so uncomfortable in the Wawa they waited for him to leave before checking out.

CHERRY HILL TOWNSHIP -- A 56-year-old Roebling man is facing attempted child luring charges on Monday after police said he tried to get two young girls into his vehicle last week.

Police said Brian M. Ayers, of 3rd Avenue, was identified through anonymous tips after police posted surveillance images of the suspect at the Wawa on Cooper Landing Road. 

Two juvenile girls reported they were in the convenience store at about 5:20 p.m. on Wednesday when they noticed Ayers staring at them, making themso uncomfortable they waited for him to leave before checking out. 

Ayers later approached the two girls as they walked in the area of S. Lincoln and Garfield Avenue about a mile away from the Wawa. He pulled up next to the two girls and offered them a ride, but both ran away and told an adult. 

Ayers is charged with second-degree attempted child luring and third-degree child endangerment. He was arrested and later released after posting $80,000 bail.
