Investigators say a man died in one of three shootings that night, although no one was hurt in the other two incidents.
CAMDEN -- Police in the city are asking for the public's assistance with investigating three different shootings, one of which killed a young man early Wednesday morning.
The Camden County Prosecutor's Office said police responded to the 3500 block of Pierce Street in response to reports of a gunshot just after 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday. There, they found Terron L. Phillips, 19, of Camden, lying in the street with a gunshot wound. He was taken to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he was pronounced dead at about 1:45 a.m.
Investigators say it was one of three shootings that night, although no one was hurt in the other two incidents.
Both of those shootings occurred before the shooting that killed Phillips. At about 11:26 p.m. on Tuesday night, an officer on patrol heard a gunshot near the 1400 block of South Eighth Street. Two people had been sitting in a car when they were approached by three men. One of the men, armed with a shotgun, tapped on the car's window, then fired a single shot into the car. Neither of the vehicle's occupants were hit.
At about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to another report of gunfire. A man told officers he had been walking near Garden and Freemont avenues when he was approached by a man with a shotgun. The suspect fired at the man, but missed.
Photos from a surveillance camera show a man with a hooded sweatshirt and an older-model SUV. Police believe the man may know something about the shootings, and add that the occupants of the vehicle are considered armed and dangerous.
All three incidents are under investigation, and police had not made any arrests by Wednesday afternoon. Anyone with information is urged to contact Camden County Prosecutor's Office Det. Christopher Sarson at 856-225-8640 or Det. Mark Lee at 856-757-7420.
