CAMDEN -- Following the fatal city shooting of an East Orange man late Friday, Camden County authorities are asking for the public's help with identifying a person of interest in connection with the incident.
James Rhodes, who was 24 at the time of his death, was found lying in an alleyway Friday evening after Camden County police officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation. He was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m. Friday.
On Tuesday, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office released surveillance footage that appears to show Rhodes walking near the scene before the shooting alongside a black male who was wearing a red shirt and dark pants at the time.
Emotions high as trio hauled into court
Per the prosecutor's office, the video shows the person of interest running in the opposite direction away from the homicide scene. The video can be found on the prosecutor's department YouTube page.
Investigators are presently seeking this man and ask members of the public to not approach him, but call police if they have information regarding his identity or whereabouts.
Rhodes' slaying was the 18th Camden City homicide of the year. Curtis Chambers, 41, was gunned down early Sunday morning and 27-year-old Gregory Cleveland was shot to death that afternoon.
According to news reports, a 34-year-old man was shot to death Monday night in Camden, although that had yet to be officially confirmed by authorities as of Tuesday afternoon.
