Investigation continues into Camden man's shooting death

Walter Davis, 48, died late Wednesday.

CAMDEN -- A city man was killed late Wednesday in a fatal shooting that remains under investigation, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

It was just before 11:20 p.m. when Camden County metro police responded to the 300 block of Sycamore Street following a 911 call. At the scene, police found 48-year-old Walter Davis lying on the ground and suffering from gunshot wounds.

Davis was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries and was pronounced deceased at approximately 11:28 p.m., the prosecutor's office said in a press release.

'We were supposed to grow old together'

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, according to the prosecutor's office, which adds that no arrests had been made as of late Thursday morning. Davis' slaying is the 24th Camden City homicide of 2016.

second overnight shooting reportedly occurred in Camden City early Thursday, leaving a 30-year-old man in serious but stable condition after suffering a gunshot wound to the stomach.
