A note penned on the back of a placemat revealed the meal had been paid for.
WINSLOW TWP. -- After attending and helping staff funeral services for a late Camden County Prosecutor's Office (CCPO) sergeant, Winslow police officers stopped off at the Berlin Diner for breakfast.
As they prepared to pay for their meal, diner staff instead delivered a note penned on the back of a placemat from a local deacon.
"Today you were called to serve and remember a brother in blue," Rev. Deacon David O'Connor wrote in his note to the officers. "Please accept my small token of appreciation covering your charges for your breakfast and more importantly know that you all remain in my daily prayers of safety and well-being."
O'Connor could not immediately be reached for comment, but Winslow Police Lt. Christopher Dubler said Thursday that the customer covered the bill for all 10 officers who helped escort the family of late CCPO Sgt. Peter Slusser from Winslow to Cherry Hill.

"Please know that along with these somber calls you know that each of you are valued, appreciated and prayerfully loved by many (not a few) for all that you continue to do," O'Connor continued. "It serves as a humbling reminder of our own mortality as you place yourselves in the forefront of others."
"We truly appreciate your generosity, kind words and prayers," Winslow police said Thursday in response to the gesture.
