Shane Streater got his black belt while collecting a disability pension, authorities say Watch video
TRENTON -- A former Camden firefighter was sentenced to seven years in state prison Friday for collecting a public disability pension while competing in mixed martial arts tournaments, authorities said.
Shane B. Streater, 41, has also been barred from public employment over the scheme, which started in 2009 when he applied for an accidental disability pension claiming work-related injuries to his neck and back, according to the state Attorney General's Office.
Acting Attorney General Christopher Porrino called the matter "one of the most egregious cases of pension fraud in recent memory."

Porrino said investigators from his office learned that Streater was collecting the pension while teaching jiu jitsu several times a week at a mixed martial arts academy. They also discovered a YouTube video of him participating in a mixed martial arts tournament in 2010, winning a bronze medal.
By the time the Police and Firemen's Retirement System revoked his pension over the discovery, he had collected $82,488.
Streater was found guilty at trial of second-degree theft by deception on April 12. He was sentenced Friday by Superior Court Judge John T. Kelley in Camden County, who ordered him to pay full restitution.
