COLLINGSWOOD -- A borough mother is crediting school nurse Patti Butler with saving her son's life.
Nicole Defeo Campbell told The Courier-Post that she thought her son, Nathan, was fighting a cold when he started kindergarten at Zane North Elementary School in Collingswood last September.
Butler told the newspaper that his coloring was off and she immediately called Defeo Campbell and asked her to take him to a doctor.

It took a few days of calling, but Defeo Campbell took Nathan to a doctor and got a call later that night with the shocking test results.
He had leukemia and needed immediate treatment. His color was off because his blood wasn't carrying enough oxygen, the Courier-Post reported. He is now in remission.
Defeo Campbell told the newspaper that without "Nurse Patti's" persistence, her son might not be here today. She nominated Butler for the America's Greatest School Nurse contest, and she is now in the running for a free summer vacation.
