Florence police also announced the arrest of a Camden man for his alleged role in the suspect's March 21 arrest.
FLORENCE -- A 20-year-old man arrested here on Virginia murder charges last month shot a man in town earlier in March, Florence police said Wednesday.
Markeith O'Shea Bryson Jr., of Roanoke, Va., was the gunman who wounded a man on March 1 at Foundry and West Second streets, police said. He was charged with attempted murder and firearm possession counts on Tuesday.
Following the March 1 shooting, the victim - who was not identified by authorities - drove away from the scene and Florence police alerted area police departments.
Burlington City officers spotted it a short time later and pulled it over at Amy's Omelette House on Route 130 and found the driver with a non life threatening gunshot wound.
Florence police had arrested Bryson on March 21 following a motor-vehicle stop.
An officer pulled over a car on West Second Street for a moving violation and Bryson, who police knew was wanted in Virginia, ran from the passenger seat. Police later found him hiding inside a house on West Third Street.
Burlington County now has 12 unsolved homicides
Bryson is charged with second-degree murder in the Jan. 17 death of Michael Lee Nance, 28, in Roanoke. He'd been a fugitive until his Florence arrest, and police say he has known ties to Burlington County.
On Tuesday, Florence police officially charged Bryson with several additional weapon possession charges for guns and ammunition found in the house following the March 21 arrest.
Among the new weapon charges against Bryson are possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, possession of a defaced firearm, possession of illegal ammunition and allowing minors access to a loaded firearm.
Florence police also said they've charged Dontae Walker, 23 of Camden, with hindering apprehension for the March 21 incident.
Walker allowed Bryson into the West Third Street residence and told detectives that Bryson was not inside and would not allow then to enter, police said.
Walker was released pending court after his Tuesday arrest. Bryson remains in the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly pending extradition to Virginia, and the criminal charges in New Jersey.
