He was also indicted on assault by auto charges in another case.
WOODBURY -- A Gloucester County grand jury has indicted an Atco man in two cases -- one involving assault by auto and the other involving assault with a coffee mug.
Lawrence S. Cabasa, 31, was indicted on an assault by auto charge in connection with a Sept. 28, 2016, crash in Pitman.
He was allegedly under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance when he crashed a vehicle into a telephone pole, causing serious injuries to a female passenger, according to a police report.
He was found in possession of heroin and was also indicted on a third-degree drug possession charge.
Nearly a month later, on Oct. 23, authorities say Cabasa broke into a Glassboro residence and assaulted a man with a metal pipe and a coffee mug.
Paulsboro stabbing death not a random act, investigators say
Cabasa allegedly struck the victim multiple times in the face and head, causing serious injuries, according to the police report.
He had been told previously not to return to that residence and as a condition of his bail, the judge ordered that he not return to the home or have any contact with the victim, the criminal complaint notes.
Cabasa was indicted on charges of burglary, aggravated assault, criminal trespassing and unlawful possession of weapons (the pipe and mug).
Salem County Correctional Facility records indicate he was jailed on $10,000 bail in that case and released in February.
