The man's family wants more information on how he died.

WINSLOW TWP. -- Authorities are trying to determine what killed Marshall Zamor, 39, who died in State Police custody after a traffic stop March 29.

An attorney for the man's family in Sicklerville said they are also seeking answers and worrying that "foul play" might have been involved, the Courier-Post reported. Attorney John Stein told the newspaper that Zamor was a "sweet, caring and healthy black male" with a wife and three children.

The attorney general's office is handling the investigation, as it does with all deaths that occur in State Police custody, according to a police spokesman.

The attorney general's office spokesman, Peter Aseltine, did not return a call Saturday but told the Courier-Post earlier that troopers saw the man put something in his mouth when he was in a holding cell.

Aseltine told the Courier-Post that Zamor was stopped around 11 a.m. March 29 on the Atlantic City Expressway in Winslow for having tinted windows, and police smelled and found marijuana in his vehicle.

After he was taken to a holding cell at a nearby State Police station, troopers saw him put something in his mouth, Aseltine told the paper.

They attempted to remove the item from his mouth three times, without using force other than to try to "swipe" it from his mouth, The Courier-Post reported.

Around noon Zamor began to convulse and lost consciousness, Aseltine told the newspaper. He said troopers and EMS personnel attempted CPR and used a defibrillator on Zamor before he was taken to Atlantic City Medical Center in Galloway, where he was pronounced dead.

Aseltine told The Courier-Post the autopsy was performed but Zamor's cause of death will not be revealed until toxicology test results are available, possibly in a few weeks.
