WINSLOW TWP. -  A man has been arrested on burglary and theft charges after officers saw him wandering through yards with a pair of bolt cutters, police said.  He was charged in connection with at least five burglaries in the area, police added.

Winslow Township Patrol Officers were on an overnight foot patrol near Pennington Avenue on Thursday in response to multiple burglaries in the area over the last couple of months, police said.

At around 2:15 a.m., officers saw a man, later identified as Shawn Kennedy, 37, walking through yards on Pennington Avenue carrying a pair of bolt cutters, police said. He reportedly initially provided a fake name to the officers. He also had active warrants for failure to appear in court, police said.

Kennedy was taken into custody on the active warrants, police said. Officers also recovered numerous stolen tools, pieces of lawn equipment and machinery, as well as heroin, police said.

Officers, through the investigation, solved five burglaries dating back to March 17, with five separate victims having some of their stolen items returned, police said.

Kennedy was charged with burglary, theft, possession of burglary tools, receiving stolen property, possession of heroin and obstruction, police said. He was sent to Camden County Correctional facility in default of bail on his active warrants.

Winslow Police still have unclaimed property that is believed to be proceeds from previous burglaries. They are asking that recent burglary victims in the Waterford Woks area contact Det. Dogostino at 609-567-0700, ext. 1214.

Winslow Police are also urging residents to always lock their sheds and vehicles.
