Nearly one year after officially announcing plans to relocate to Camden, Subaru of America Inc. will break ground on its new city facility on Dec. 9.

CAMDEN -- Nearly one year after officially announcing plans to relocate to Camden, Subaru of America Inc. will break ground on its new city facility on Dec. 9.

The car company currently located in Cherry Hill will now have its corporate headquarters -- and a few hundred jobs -- located within a 13-acre lot near Admiral Wilson Boulevard.

"As part of the Camden area Knights Crossing regeneration, Subaru's contemporary, zero-landfill facility will bring all local area employees together at one main campus to continue its nearly 50-year history in the Delaware Valley," a release from the company issued Tuesday reads.

Development partners Brandywine Realty Trust, officials from the nearby Campbell Soup Company as well as state and city representatives are scheduled to attend the groundbreaking.

"After enjoying seven years of sales and consequent employment growth, Subaru will embark on the next chapter in its history in a new, larger home, marking a significant milestone for both the company and the City of Camden," the news release states.

The car maker also operated a satellite office in Pennsauken. According to previous reports, the company with a national workforce of about 900 people will relocate roughly 500 jobs to Camden. An additional 100 jobs would be created by the move.

Subaru saw $118 million in tax credits approved by the states' Economic Development Authority late last year. The deal, which is paid out over 10 years, is similar to other incentives approved for Camden newcomers such as the Philadelphia 76ers and Holtec International.

On Monday, state and city officials joined PSE&G utility company employees to announce a $55 million infrastructure expansion project to support the needs of incoming businesses.
