Michael Hoffner, 50, is facing five counts of wire fraud in connection with incidents that occurred between September and December of 2012.

VOORHEES TWP. -- A township resident who previously owned a pub in Philadelphia's Fairmount section was charged Thursday with wire fraud as part of an ongoing case, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Michael Hoffner, 50, is facing five counts of wire fraud in connection with incidents that occurred between September and December of 2012, United States Attorney Zane David Memeger announced. Hoffner was initially charged with 23 counts of wire fraud in June.

Authorities say Hoffner, who owned the Brown Street Pub at 24th and Brown streets near Eastern State Penitentiary, allegedly used a stolen credit card number 28 times to make charges to Visa, American Express, or Mastercard cards.

"The cardholders were not aware of and did not authorize these transactions. The proceeds of these transactions went into accounts that Hoffner controlled," the justice department said in a news release.

Hoffner faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison for each wire fraud count, a $7 million fine and three years of supervised release. The case was investigated by United States Secret Service and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David J. Ignall.
