CAMDEN -- Nine days after Nathaniel "Nate" Plummer was laid to rest, the 13-year-old's alleged killer was charged with first-degree murder by authorities in Camden County.
The suspect, a 17-year-old female from Camden, was charged Wednesday with first-degree murder stemming from Plummer's death, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
The teen, whose name was not released by investigators, has been at a juvenile detention facility since Jan. 9 when she surrendered to Camden County police in connection with an October 2015 shooting. According to the prosecutor's office, ballistic evidence was used by detectives to link the 17-year-old to both shootings.
As a result of the Oct. 30, 2015 non-fatal shooting, Camden County police responded to the 2600 block of Mickle Street after a gunfire detection system was activated. The victim, a 19-year-old man from Camden, was taken to Cooper University Hospital for treatment
She was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and aggravated assault in connection with the October 2015 shooting.
Plummer, also of Camden, was the city's first homicide of 2016. The city saw 34 homicides in 2015.
The Octavius V. Catto Community School 7th grader was found shot and lying on a sidewalk in the area of Beacon and Line streets on shortly after 11 p.m. on Jan. 7. He transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 12:15 a.m. on Jan. 8.
At a Jan. 18 repast ceremony for the middle school basketball play, Plummer's mother, Taisha Mercado, thanked the community for the support she's received since her son's death.
